Private Art Lessons
I teach painting and drawing classes in Gainesville, FL. For private lessons you now have a choice of in-person or Zoom sessions. Working with all ages and levels of ability, I tailor my instruction to the specific needs of the student. My method is based on representational painting. Along with hands-on demonstrations, advice is offered on materials, technique, color mixing and design. Students can select the subjects they want to paint.
Subjects are painting/drawing basics, portrait and figure (beginner to advanced), still life and landscape. Methods are alla prima and Flemish (indirect). Group Art Classes Figure Drawing Class Oil Portrait Painting Class - Old Master Painting Method Plein Air (landscape) Painting Class Painting outside, students learn to organize the space in their painting, respond to changing light conditions, observe the nuances of moving light and shadow. Every outdoor session is supplemented by a theory segment and a critique at the end. Feedback is provided along every stage of the process. The class meets and paints outdoors in the Kanapaha botanical gardens or along the river. In a case of inclement weather, we work indoors.

These classes are based on the academic approach to drawing a human figure. Drawing from a live model, the students will gain a solid understanding of structure, volume and proportion. A part of every session is devoted to discovering the logic of movement and balance of the human body.
A prior drawing experience is strongly recommended.
The classes are small, designed to provide plenty of individual attention and feedback.
The instruction fee is $300/6 sessions, model fee is $50, a total of $350
The style of oil painting used by the old masters, also known as "indirect" or glazing method, requires at least three sessions to complete a portrait. This approach emphasizes a systematic building of the forms of the human head with value and color, starting with a darker tonal underpainting and gradually introducing lighter values. Painting from a live model, the students will complete two portraits during this class.
The instruction fee is $300/6 sessions, model fee is $50, a total of $350.
The students use the medium of their choice (oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel).
The instruction fee is $200/4 sessions, all levels.
